Enchanted Forest

Using games in therapy sessions

Enchanted Forest board game is a great fun activity that can be used by speech & language therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and special education teachers.  Games can make therapy fun and engaging for the child while the therapist can elicit responses and actions that meet therapy goals.

Enchanted Forest

Enchanted Forest board game from Ravensburger includes one game board, 13 Treasure cards, 13 Trees with hidden treasures, 6 wooden playing figures, 2 dice, and instruction booklet.

Set up the game board and place the 13 trees around the board without looking at the treasure on the underside.  Shuffle the Treasure cards and place the pile inside the Castle with the Blue Roof, and turn the top card over on the stack so all can see it.

Suggested lesson for Enchanted Forest

“Today we’re going to play Enchanted Forest and look for hidden treasure.”

“It is your turn first, so place your playing token on the Star space in the middle of the Village Square. Roll the two dice.”

“What did you roll? Yes, you rolled a five and a four. You can move five spaces, or you can move four spaces. Or, you can add the two numbers together. What are five and four added together?”

“That’s right, it is nine. Let’s look at the board. You can count out the spaces. Nine spaces take you… where?”

“Yes, moving nine spaces takes you to a Blue space by a tree. Take a look under the tree. Do you see the treasure? If it is the same as the Treasure card, on your next turn, you can head over to the castle.”

“Now, it is my turn. I put my player token on the Star space. I roll the dice and I roll a six and a one. Six plus one is seven. I move my token seven places, but there is nothing on my space. Now it is your turn again.”

“What did you roll? Yes, you rolled a two and a four. You can move two spaces, or you can move four spaces. Or, you can add the two numbers together. What are two and four added together? Yes, it is six.”

“You can move six spaces backwards, or if you move four spaces forward, you land on another Blue space by a tree.”

“You decided to move four spaces forward. You land on the Blue space. Look under the tree to see the treasure. Remember this treasure and remember the treasure under the first tree as well.”
